BA- English/History Teacher
Maya earned a degree in English with an art minor. She has taught art, English, history, ESL/ELL, and special education in public and charter schools. She has also been a behavior manager and a Youth-in-Custody Mentor. One of Maya’s strengths is helping students connect school learning with life. She often integrates the Japanese concepts of wabi-sabi and kintsugi – honoring and finding beauty and strength in imperfection. “I try to help students feel calm and cared about, to create a good space for learning and sharing.” When she’s not teaching, Maya loves lap swimming, hiking, reading, traveling, and spending time with her kids and two grandsons.
