Modern Day Mothers

The mothers in our lives come in many different forms. From those who have taken on a motherly role to those who are vulnerable to mothers who have chosen to adopt and welcome a child into their family. In today’s modern-day, there are many unique ways in which motherhood can happen, and celebrating all mothers is what Eva Carlston wants to focus on this Mother’s Day.

What Motherhood Really Means

Defining motherhood is nearly impossible, as it can mean different things to many different individuals. Discovering why motherhood matters is a deeply personal journey that is found throughout time. It’s a gift that not every family has the opportunity to have in their lifetime, but represents love, cherished memories, comfort, and love.

It’s in the science! During a study done by Washington University in St.Louis, they found that children’s brains that were nurtured by their mothers were 10% larger than those who did not. Mothers play an essential role in our lives – no matter how they enter – and give children the encouragement they need to become happy, healthy adults.

Additionally, the love and comfort felt by a mother gives children the stability they need while growing up. In a 2010 study, it was found that children who had emotionally supportive mothers were found to have better mental health and coping mechanisms than those who did not. The role of mothers is vital and it’s achieved through many different ways that modern science and societal views have given us.

Changing Times

Times are changing, to say the least, and this means Motherhood is changing with it! Gender roles have progressed exponentially to the point where mothers can now be the sole breadwinner of the family, the traditional nuclear family is fading into the background, and work from home roles are becoming more prominent than ever before. Regardless of how mothers have come into our lives or at what stage, they give us the love and support we often need during tough times.

There is no longer the idea of a typical family, it can come in many shapes and sizes.

At Eva Carlston Academy, we’re happy to celebrate mothers of all kinds. We’re grateful for the diverse families we interact with daily and hope to continue to provide an inclusive environment for all. Motherhood is a gift born through continuous and unconditional love that is given to their children. This Mother’s Day, we’d like to thank all the mothers of Eva Carlston Academy, those who are still yearning to be a mother, and those who have taken in others.
