The Benefits of Consistency in Daily Living

Having a lack of structure in your daily life can cause stress, anxiety, decreased productivity, feelings of no motivation, and more. Having a routine implemented into your schedule can greatly reduce these symptoms while cohesively improving your day-to-day life.

At Eva Carlston Academy, we work with a variety of students from different backgrounds and we have found it helpful to provide our students with a routine that works for them to propel them forward in not only academics but their mental health.

5 Benefits of Having a Routine

  1. Lowers stress and anxiety levels

When it comes to stress and anxiety, it’s often related to the future or things that are out of our control. By focusing our energy on the things that are in the present moment and are within our control, we are able to realize the importance of taking a step back and evaluating certain situations.

  1. Helps cope with change

If you find yourself experiencing life changes that are sudden and disrupt your way of life, it may feel overwhelming. By having a routine and structure already in place, we are able to have something to fall back on and rely on in times of distress and change.

  1. Increases feelings of safety and security

As we start to feel like our life is spiraling out of control, we may begin to feel scared or like nothing is under our control. Although there are things that we may not be able to control, having a routine and structure is important in keeping us grounded by knowing what will happen ahead of time.

  1. Promotes better sleep

Having a nighttime routine to help you settle down for bed can greatly improve your quality of sleep. By implementing a consistent sleep routine, you will then see a positive change in your mental health. Sleep is essential to giving us the energy we need throughout the day and helps with motivation, productivity, creativity, happiness, and more.

  1. Improves focus, organizational skills, and productivity

A great way to help your focus, organization, and productivity is by creating a routine. This way, you know when you need to be doing something and what is coming up. It allows you to stay focused on the task at hand, schedule out deadlines and projects, and in turn, increase how well you work.

Structure and Routines at Eva Carlston

Here at Eva Carlston Academy, we recognize the importance of a daily routine and how structure can have tremendous benefits for mental health. Since opening our doors, we have implemented several techniques to ensure our students are provided with the resources they need to succeed in every aspect.

At the start of each day, we begin with breakfast followed by a gym class to get their bodies awake and moving. Then it’s off to school to learn about all the subjects they need to get on track for their education. After lunch, we provide our students with group therapy to give them the much needed boost in the middle of their day. Once their school, group, and free time is completed they help prepare the meal they have selected.

Finally, to end our nights we like to regroup with our students and check in with them during a “Family Meeting.” We discuss upcoming events, chores that need to be taken care of, meals, conflicts that may have risen, and much more. Our students get to end their day with some well-deserved relaxation time before bed. We believe that giving our students this important schedule is vital to their success in therapy and helping them cope with the transition between Eva Carlston and being integrated back into society.

Eva Carlston Academy strongly believes in the benefits of consistency in daily living. By creating a schedule for our students, they learn how to manage their time, increase productivity, reduce stress levels, and cope with any feelings of anxiety. We strive to create a welcoming environment that gives them the freedom and structure they need to live healthy lives.
