2020 Tumbleweeds Film Festival

This year, Eva Carlston will once again be sponsoring the 2020 Tumbleweeds Film Festival for Kids. The Festival will take place the weekends of March 6-8 & 13-15. Eva Carlston will be involved in between films with the Clubhouse that has been designed for kids. The Clubhouse partners with local non-profits to engage kids in art-filled fun! Eva Carlston will also be sponsoring a screening of the Sundance film ‘Giving Voice‘.

Synopsis for Sundance Film Giving Voice

August Wilson, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright of “Fences,” “The Piano Lesson,” and “Joe Turner’s Come and Gone,” is recognized as one of America’s preeminent playwrights, chronicling the African American experience with ten plays – each based in a different decade of the 20th Century.

Every year, thousands of students from twelve cities perform a monologue of Wilson’s in competition for a chance to perform at the August Wilson Theater on Broadway.

Through following this competition, GIVING VOICE examines how Wilson, a singular talent and artist, provides a lens for a new generation to understand the world they live in and inspires them to find their own voice to survive and persevere in their increasingly complicated world.

Our amazing Art Director Maggie Willis, and Eva Carlston students will help create an installation for kids and families. The theme this year is Adventure. Kids will be asked “What would you take on an adventure?”. Maggie will prepare materials for kids to decorate or put together, and then piece them together to create one large installation at the SLC Library. Maggie uses all recycled materials to avoid creating excess waste and to allow parents to be able to recreate the projects at home. 

The girls will be the greeters, helping kids feel welcome and comfortable and also helping the final installation to come together. They also have to work with parents, giving them an opportunity to practice the skills they are learning at Eva Carlston with other adults in the community. 

This helps the girls prepare for life after Eva Carlston. They learn what it is like to have responsibility in a job and how to work with children and adults, alike. They are even encouraged to add this event to their resume as an internship!
